Today’s catch comes from electronic dance royalty & pioneers Phil and Paul Hartnoll…better known as Orbital. The legendary duo out of the UK has just released a brand new box compilation album called 30 Something, which contains 24 tracks from the past thirty years and many current remixes. Today’s catch is a brand new single called “Smiley“. This track sounds so “old school”, which is completely brilliant & infectious, and goes back to the early years of rave culture From their press release…
“Marking the 50th anniversary of the symbol, it samples the ‘A Trip Round Acid House’ edition of ‘World In Action’ – the ITV documentary about the Acid House scene, with a 20-year-old Paul recalling being beaten up by police at a house party in Sevenoaks, Kent. ‘We wanted to do something that represented where our heads are at now but wearing the clothes from back when we started,’ he says on the tune. ‘So to chronicle thirty years of Orbital you’ve got this track that chronicles the very start of dance music in Sevenoaks. It’s our origin story.’”
The album contains all of their classic hits, and some of those tracks remixed by a new generation of electronic artists & legendary DJ’s as well. I’m talking about musicians like Dusky, Logic 1000, John Tejada, Jon Hopkins, Lone, David Holmes, Joris Voorn, and Yotto contributing to the project.
