K.Flay is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Wilmette, Illinois. K.Flay started making music at the age of 19 and released her first mixtape, Suburban Rap Queen, in 2005. Deriving inspiration from strong female artists such as Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Missy Elliott, and Lauryn Hill, K.Flay found her sound somewhere in between hip hop, indie rock, and electronic music. K.Flay signed to RCA Records in 2012 and released her EP Eyes Shut that same year. Unfortunately, after her 2013 release of What It Is, K.Flay left RCA due to their inability to market her sound. She released her full-length debut album Life as a Dog independently in 2014, through the help of crowdsourcing. In 2016 she was one of the first to sign with Night Street Records and released her EP Crush Me just 10 days later. Her sophomore album Every Where Is Some Where was released in 2017 and even earned her a Grammy nomination for the single “Blood in the Cut.”
