Fountains of Wayne member Adam Schlesinger died earlier this month from complications of coronavirus. Billie Joe Armstrong honored the songwriter by covering his Oscar-nominated theme song “That Thing You Do!” during his “No Fun Mondays” series.
“Today’s song is a tribute to the late Adam Schlesinger and the incredible music he wrote including this one, ‘That Thing You Do,'” wrote the Green Day frontman in the video’s description. Listen to the tribute below.
Earlier this year the punk-rock band released their album Father of All Motherfuckers, which followed their Revolution Radio album from 2016. Armstrong announced that he’s been working a new material for Green Day while in quarantine. Perhaps a new album is to come in the near future? Only time will tell.
Following their latest album release, the band was set to go on tour this year; however, the coronavirus pandemic caused a pause on their upcoming international show dates. Green Day is still set for their Texas shows this summer, tickets are available to purchase.
