When Fall Out Boy had to fall out of two shows due to COVID concerns, Weezer stepped in to fill their shoes. The band performed their take on Fall Out Boy’s hit track ‘Sugar We’re Goin Down’ at their New York show on Wednesday. The performance featured Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo inviting fans to sing along. You can watch a clip from the song below:

The sudden cancellation from Fall Out Boy, who are co-headliners on the Hella Mega Tour with Weezer and Green Day, comes after a team member tested positive for COVID-19. The band cancelled both their Wednesday night performance in New York and their August 5th show in Boston. Green Day and Weezer went on with the shows as planned.

Fall Out Boy stated that they made their decision out of an abundance of caution. They went on to say, “It’s important to note that everyone on the entire tour, both band and crew, are fully vaccinated. Each band and their crew have operated in a bubble independently to safeguard everyone as much as possible at each show and in between shows.”

Fall Out Boy are set to return to the Hella Mega Tour this weekend on August 8th at their Washington D.C. gig at Nationals Park.

Weezer is no stranger to the more-than-occasional cover. They released their Teal Album, a collection of covers of classic 80s tracks and more, back in 2019. The band recently revealed a cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”, which will be featured on Metallica’s Metallica Blacklist cover album.
