System Of A Down | Protect the Land and Genocidal Humanoidz
System Of A Down released new material for the first time in 15 years. The two new songs are called “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz.” The group released the tracks to bring awareness to the “serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia.”
In a statement released by the band, they emphasized how important it is to donate to those who are affected “with what are ever growing accounts of crimes against humanity.” They also want their fans to “speak out about the horrific injustices and human rights violations occurring there now.”
These protest songs follow the band’s 2005 album’s Mezmerize and Hypnotize. Although they hadn’t released new material in over a decade, System of Down continued to tour. Back in 2018, frontman Serj Tanakian said, “I’ve always felt continuing to do the same thing with the same people over time is artistically redundant even for a dynamic outfit like ours.” However, the crisis in their homelands changed that. Proceeds from the songs will go to those in need of “crucial aid and supplies” in Artsakh and Armenia.

Jade Bird | Headstart
Jade Bird dropped a new track titled “Headstart.” The new single was recorded at RCA studios and produced by Dave Cobb, who previously worked with the late John Prine and Grammy winner Brandi Carlile.
“Headstart” follows Jade Bird’s self-titled debut album, which was released in April 2019. The UK artist said she wrote the song after taking a trip to upstate New York. “Being there, I was immediately taken back to the magic and inspiration of creating the first album. It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, but more than that releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again.”
Bird shared a tutorial on Instagram for the guitar riff of “Headstart.” Stream the track below and watch the tutorial to see the UK artist break it all down.
