Local Natives & Sylvan Esso | Dark Days
Local Natives teamed up with Sylvan Esso for a new studio version of their song “Dark Days” from their 2016 album Sunlit Youth. Amelia Meath’s vocals are featured in the updated track. The group and Meath first performed the song together back in March 2020 on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, prior to the coronavirus pandemic. “We last played it live on Kimmel a little over 2 months ago, which now feels like a distant memory from a bizarre alternate reality,” said Local Natives in an Instagram post.
The band shared the significance behind “Dark Days” with fans, saying the track is “a loose homage to growing up in Southern California: first loves, sneaking out, finding your own way — all while trying to outrun religious guilt. The song has become integral to our band and our live shows.” Meath of Sylvan Esso wrote a new verse for the updated version, listen to the harmonious track below.
Rivers Cuomo | Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)
Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo covered Green Day’s classic “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” for his Island in the Zoom Sessions series. Earlier this week Weezer, Green Day and Fall Out Boy announced the postponement of their Hella Mega tour. In the statement, the band said they were looking forward to the tour, but safety was the main priority when making the decision. “We’ll be announcing Summer 2021 dates with the same venues very soon, so hold on to those tickets.”
The singer took to Twitter to apologize about the tour postponement and shared the new cover, where Cuomo’s wife joined in on piano. Check out the melodic rendition below.
