Woodstock co-creator Michael Lang has told Rolling Stone that a three-day festival honoring the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock is in the works. The event will take place in Watkins Glen, New York—150 miles away from the original site of Bethel, New York— on August 16th-18th.
Although the lineup won’t be announced until February, Lang says that they have over 40 performers already booked across three stages. “It’ll be an eclectic bill,” adds Lang, with some newer bands staging “celebrations of artists from the original Woodstock.”
And as far as a target audience, Lang hopes to attract people of all ages making the event as “multi-generational” as possible.
Lang also hopes to revive the social and political activism that was alive and well during the original festival. “Woodstock, in its original incarnation, was really about social change and activism,” says Lang, “and that’s a model that we’re bringing back to this festival.”
Tickets for the 50th-anniversary event will go on sale February via the website, although no exact date has been confirmed.
