Today’s catch comes from the legendary songwriter and electronic musician, Martin Gore. He is most known for being one of the founding members of Depeche Mode, but lately in the past several years he has been doing a lot of instrumental solo work. He has a new EP, The Third Chimpanzee, which includes 5 new tracks and will be out on 1/29. Today’s catch is the first single off the forthcoming EP called “Mandrill“, and it is absolutely remarkable. It has the body of a Depeche Mode song; however, there’s a darker industrial sound mixed in. This is what Gore has to say about the EP and song…
“The first track I recorded had a sound that wasn’t human. It sounded primate-like. I decided to name it ‘Howler,’ after a monkey. Then, when it came time to name the EP, I remembered reading the book The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee. It all made sense to call it that, as the EP was made by one of the third chimpanzees.“
