I’m gonna keep this pretty short and sweet. Today’s catch comes from a Chillville favorite, Washed Out. Ernest Greene from WO has been busy working on a new album called Purple Noon, which is due out in August. Today’s catch is the first single from the upcoming LP entitled “Time To Walk Away“, and it’s absolutely magic. A new single, a new beautiful piece of music! This is what Ernest has to say about the album and new single coming straight from Facebook…
“There is so much to unpack about my new record Purple Noon. As you may or may not know, each new WO project ends up turning into an obsessive, deeply researched world-building exercise for me – and I can’t wait to start sharing bits and pieces of this next chapter of WO.
TTWA was one of the first songs I wrote for the new album – and in a lot of ways I think it was one of the most satisfying to make. My biggest challenge is often how to incorporate new sonic ideas (in order to continue to evolve) while also having the songs remain recognizably WO. Out of all of the material on PN, I think TTWA is the most successful with this. Sonically, there are some things I’ve never tried before – but the vocal melody and sentiment feels like classic WO. My melodies often have a layer of longing that can feel quite melancholic and sad – but I feel like on rare occasions those same melodies can be oddly uplifting and hopeful at the same time. I believe that it is at this intersection where the best WO songs live – and that is how TTWA has made me feel since the day it was written. Hope you guys feel the same…”
