MTV in Austin Back in 1993

Remember when Austin used to be cool maaaan? Well someone representing old Austin back in 1993 surely thought that Kurt Loder and MTV visiting our city was truly the end of cool.  Sure, every generation living in central Texas opines about the mystical time when things were better – when Stevie Ray played on a pallet fire at the Armadillo – but there is something truly special about the early nineties and Austin before the tech boom, the skyscrapers and the shot bars.

This video offers us a time capsule of the music, the people and the landscape of Austin before the city really began to change into the bustling hub of cool that it is now.

If you missed it, check out our very own Matt Bearden when he was on MTV’s Austin Stories back in the day. Thanks to Andy Langer for finding this gem on YouTube and Juice Pod for posting it.
