In an interview with Radio.com last week, U2’s Bono and The Edge reminisced about the first time they ever heard one of their songs played on the radio, and what might have been had their music careers not panned out.
When Bono first heard “Out of Control” off their debut album, Boy, he knew “this is it,” that he had made the right choice pursuing music. “Whatever doubts I had about the career choice were slain,” The Edge continued. Before dropping out after a short eight-week stint at university, The Edge was a chemistry major. “I could have been the Mr. Burns of Dublin,” he said as the two went off on a tangent about The Simpsons and Family Guy.
They then rambled about Irish drinking stereotypes, referencing the plot of a 2001 Family Guy episode where Peter Griffin takes his son Chris to the Museum of Irish Heritage to try and get him to connect with his ancestry, and they find out their family invented beer. Cheers to U2 for embracing the Irish drinking stereotype.
