Metallica has contributed a $200,000 grant to aid wildfire relief endeavors in Maui through its charity foundation, All Within My Hands.

The band announced the news through the organization’s Instagram account“We are heartbroken by the destructive wildfires devastating the historic town of Lahaina in Maui … The fund is currently providing resources, along with rapid response and recovery for the ongoing wildfires.”

The wildfires are Hawaii’s deadliest natural disaster in decades, surpassing the toll of a 1960 tsunami that resulted in 61 fatalities. The donation will support the Maui Strong Fund, established by the Hawaii Community Foundation. This fund aids in recovery efforts for the Hawaiian island in the aftermath of devastating wildfires that claimed nearly 100 lives and caused extensive damage to businesses and homes, as well as nearly wiping out the historic town of Lahaina.  Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said: “The fund is currently providing resources, along with rapid response and recovery for the ongoing wildfires.”
